A Slow Year
in the Garden
One year in a forgotten allotment. Plant seeds, pull weeds, watch the seasons turn. A game about tending, and the patience it asks of you.
Read the case study →Ilyana is a small atelier of writers, painters, and engineers. We build interactive works that linger — slow stories, intimate spaces, and the kind of beauty you only notice the second time through.
A small body of work, tended carefully. Each piece is an attempt to say one thing, clearly, and then leave room for the player to feel it.

Read the case study →A correspondence game set in a coastal town. You answer letters, set type, and decide which stories are worth printing. Every choice is a first draft.
Read the case study →An archipelago of half-remembered islands, drawn in watercolour and tied together by a single lighthouse keeper. Explore at your own pace — there is no map on purpose.
Read the case study →A short game about the objects we keep, and the people we keep them for. Made in collaboration with a small museum in Kyoto.

Six disciplines, practised slowly. We keep the team small on purpose — every project is touched by every hand in the studio.
We begin with a single feeling we want the player to have. Everything else is built around it.
Stories told through objects, spaces, and the gaps between lines. We write lightly.
Hand-drawn, hand-coloured, and lit like a still life. Every frame is meant to be looked at twice.
Custom tools built in-house. We value stability, readability, and code that ages well.
Original scores recorded with small ensembles. Music that holds the room, then steps aside.
We partner with publishers and museums who trust the work. We protect the quiet parts.
Ten years, told briefly. We have tried to keep the story small, and the work honest.
Founded in a Copenhagen apartment by two friends and a borrowed desk. First project began as a weekly letter to each other.
Released our debut — a 40-minute walk through a field. It found, to our surprise, a great many patient readers.
Opened a small writing room in Kyoto. The two studios work in shifts, passing each project across time zones like a letter.
Our largest work to date. Three years of watercolour and weather, and a story about the ones who stay behind.
Released our most loved title — and learned that a small game, given time, can outlast a loud one.
Four projects in various stages of tending. We are still small, and we intend to stay that way.
